wXw Linear Championship – An Unwritten History

wXw Linear Championship – An Unwritten History

The concept of the Linear Championship was brought to my attention by the lads at Voices of Wrestling. Here is their WWE linear title –

WWE Linear Championship

This week VK (@vilinskikonjic on Twitter) reminded me how entertaining these things can be. I went digging into a few possible alternate realities. The Progress title goes all over Scotland before disappearing into the US Indies, saved by Sabu and is currently around the waist of Danny Butler (of CCW Ireland) at time of writing. The Rev Pro title is lost to the US Indies and is held by Shane Andrews. The wXw belt however has enjoyed a bizarre series of changes over the years. The idea here is that any lost match results in a title change. We kick things off with wXw’s first ever Unified Champion; Zack Sabre Jr and see where it takes us. Strap in, it’s an interesting ride!

The path the belt takes back to Germany is a quite astonishing one. It also shocked me the number of times a guy would be about to go on a New Japan tour and lost the title right beforehand. The TNA taping timeline caused me a few headaches but I’ve gone with the order in which the matches actually occurred rather than when they were released on TV. Will the belt ever return to wXw a second time? It’s currently in Europe so that’s a decent bet. Will it ever make it to New Japan, or WWE? Only time will tell. Congratulations to Kip Sabian; wXw Linear Unified World Champion.

Notes:

  1. I have used all wins and losses regardless of how they occurred. Therefore count outs and DQ’s have resulted in title switches.
  2. Unlike the ‘official’ VOW Rules multi-man matches have counted, unless they were battle royals or Royal Rumble style matches.
