We open the show with a contract signing for the AJ Styles/Shane McMahon Wrestlemania match. Shane starts by saying that he respects AJ, calling him one of the greatest talents to ever step foot in the ring, to which AJ agrees. Shane says that AJ has become arrogant recently though, and that he will have to bring out his A-game or Shane will beat him. AJ responds by saying he will embarrass Shane because he will outwrestle Shane. They almost come to blows but are stopped by Daniel Bryan, who forces them to shake hands.
Becky Lynch vs. Carmella (w/James Ellsworth)
Mickie James and Alexa Bliss are out on commentary for this, Mickie looks weird sitting there in full gear.
We don’t get to see much of the match as the two women on commentary get into a brawl, and a tag match is made.
Mickie James and Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss and Carmella (w/James Ellsworth)
We get a pretty boring match to start, with Alexa working over Mickie, until Natalya comes down with full entrance music to join commentary. That’s a pretty great move. The rest of the match continues to be basically nothing until Natalya distracts Becky for the finish. Carmella pins Becky Lynch **
All five women brawl until Naomi makes her big return to a huge pop. She clears house and then announces herself for Wrestlemania. I would have left this return for the show itself personally, but I understand doing it now since the title match is on the preshow.
Tyler Breeze, still dressed as Nikki Bella, meets with Daniel Bryan backstage and tries to get himself in the women’s title match. He doesn’t buy it but instead gives Breezango a spot in the Andre Battle Royale.
The Miz and Maryse are out next to introduce the next chapter in their Total Bellas parody. This time it also features Daniel Bryan and it continues to be glorious.
Towards the end of the skit, Maryse and Miz take off their costumes and cut pretty scathing promos on Cena and Nikki.
Maryse wasn’t that great for her part, since she had to focus on something dumb like Nikki not getting to have kids with Cena, but Miz was phenomenal as usual.
This causes Nikki and Cena to come out to the ring. Cena is much more fired up than I’ve seen him in a while and he cut an incredible promo on Miz and Maryse. I don’t expect this match to be anything special, but my god the promos have been top quality.
American Alpha (Jason Jordan and Chad Gable), Heath Slater, Rhyno, and Mojo Rawley vs. The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso), Breezango (Tyler Breeze and Fandango), and Dolph Ziggler
All of the men booked in this are in the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royale, which seems like a complete waste of The Usos and American Alpha. Not so much Dolph. These guys got a decent amount of time and had a match that was much better than it probably deserved to be, save for the hacky “everybody throws each other over the top rop to sell the gimmick” spot. Mojo Rawley pins Tyler Breeze ** ¾
Luke Harper is backstage and cuts an awesome promo on being free from Bray Wyatt, before their match later tonight.
Bray Wyatt vs. Luke Harper
I kind of wish these guys had a match on a bigger stage, but they had a really fun sprint here. The story of the match was Harper hesitating before going for his discuss lariat and getting caught by Sister Abigail. As much as I want Harper to stay as a singles guy, there’s a part of me that thinks this was teasing Harper coming back to the Wyatt Family. Wyatt pins Harper with Sister Abigail ***
After the match Randy Orton appears on the titatron at the site of the former Wyatt Compound. We get a weird creepy video to end the show.
This was a total middle of the road show, the opening segment and Cena promos were great but everything else just felt like it was there. It was still a better show than RAW, but even here I am struggling to write anything more about the show.
