What a year it’s been for Trent Seven. Last year he quit his job in a call centre. This year he got signed by the WWE and has been getting over with a global audience ever since, one charismatic laden promo at a time. He’s been one of my favourite acts in pro-wrestling for a couple of years and it’s great to see him getting out to a larger audience. There’s nothing quite like being close to Trent while he’s talking because he throws out a million lines a minute and banters with the best of them. He may have the ‘Dad bod’ that will hold him back with WWE but where he comes up short he more than makes up for it with his personality. Might not be everyone’s cup of tea but there’s a good chance you’ll enjoy some of his mic work at the very least. Naito belongs on this list. We overlooked him doing the lead-in podcasts but Naito’s chance of persona in 2016 has won over almost the entire NJPW fanbase. They love him. Whether it’s his poses, his habit of falling asleep at press conferences or his general laid-back demeanour it’s hard to not find something to like about the guy. There are a bunch of guys on three points; Sexsmith, Gage, Black, Hiromu and Dragunov. They’ve all had strong years and are easy to like.
