This year we have far more shows mentioned with 19 shows compared to 13 in 2017. Plus multiple votes for six shows. Wrestle Kingdom is generally a no brainer for show of the year but it didn’t blow me away in 2018 and clearly didn’t blow away the voters either, coming in third. What did surprise me was a lack of votes for other prominent NJPW shows like Dominion and Sakura Genesis with votes spread across those and two different G1 shows. The vote being split allowed NXT TakeOver NOLA to slide in with the win.
For those struggling to recall TakeOver NOLA;
NXT North American Ladder Match for the new title (***** DM)
Shayna Baszler vs. Ember Moon
Dusty Rhodes Classic Final: Undisputed Era winning and Roderick Strong turning heel to join them.
Aleister Black vs. Andrade Almas (****1/4 DM)
Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa (***** DM)
A WWE show that had full snowflakes from Meltzer? TWICE? You bet your ass it’s show of the year.
Big shout out to wXw 16 Carat Gold N2 that killed it. Ilja’s amazing return, his dramatic title win over Bad Bones, Bobby Gunns’ terrific and gruesome Shotgun title defence against Mike Bailey, Absolute Andy Superdadding his way past Matt Riddle, Lucky Kid getting made in defeat to tournament favourite Tim Thatcher and even overcame having an abysmal pre-show dark match hit negative stars and rebound!
